Procedure to be followed – Mandatory Registration

Any owner of a dog residing within the limits of the Senneville shall, in the thirty (30) days following the acquisition of such animal:

  • Have such dog registered with Town Hall of Senneville and obtain a tag ($40);
  • Produce a certificate signed by a veterinarian stipulating that the dog has been inoculated against rabies;
  • Identify the dog as to breed, sex, color and name.
Medal
  • An officer of Senneville Town Hall must issue a tag, upon receipt of the registration, to the applicants having fulfilled the request.
  • The owner of a dog shall make sure that the tag is worn by the animal at all times.
  • Should the tag be lost or destroyed, the person to whom it was issued may have it replaced for a fee of $5.
Nuisances

The following acts, situations, and behaviours constitute a nuisance and are prohibited. Any dog guardian or other person causing such a nuisance or whose dog behaves in a manner that creates a nuisance is in violation of this by-law:

  • Failure to comply with any provision of this by-law, particularly those set out in Section 1 of this Chapter;
  • A dog injuring a person or domestic animal or exhibiting threatening behaviour;
  • A dog barking or howling in a way that disturbs the peace or becomes a nuisance to the neighbourhood;
  • Organizing, participating in, encouraging, or attending animal fights;
  • Spreading poison or placing any type of trap on one’s property or elsewhere to capture, restrain, or kill a dog;
  • Allowing a dog to defecate or urinate on someone else’s property without the prior consent of the owner or occupant;
  • Failing to promptly and adequately remove the dog’s feces, including on one’s own property;
  • Failing to repair, within a reasonable time, damage caused by one’s dog;
  • Allowing a dog to drink from or bathe in a public fountain or water fountain;
  • Tethering a dog to a stationary object in a public space;
  • Leaving a dog alone without a guardian or failing to provide appropriate care for more than twenty-four (24) consecutive hours;
  • Allowing a dog to roam freely in a public space or on private property, except in areas specifically authorized by the Municipality.
    • However, it is not considered a nuisance to allow a dog to roam freely on its own property or on private property not accessible to the public where its presence has been expressly authorized;
  • Allowing a dog to disturb garbage or household waste.

The Quebec Government has adopted a Regulation respecting the application of the Act to promote the protection of persons by establishing a framework with regards to dogs on December 4, 2019, and the latter was into force on March 3, 2020. This regulation will be applicable everywhere in Quebec and every local municipality is responsible for applying, in its territory, any regulation made under this Act.

Lost animals are now sheltered at the Centre Canin du Suroît/Contrôle animal Vaudreuil-Soulanges location. Owners will be asked to pay pound costs directly when claiming their animal.

We take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of obtaining licences for your dog at Town Hall. These are compulsory for dogs and will help reunite you with your pet. You should also ensure that your pet’s information is updated in our files as this is our sole means of identifying him should he go missing.
