Branch Collection
In order to avoid landfill, the Village of Senneville offers special collections for branches. These branches are shredded and ground into chips. The chips are available free of charge to the citizens of Senneville.
What is the 2026 branch collection schedule?
The branch collection service will take place on the second Tuesday of each month until November. Exceptionally, for April, the collection will take place on April 28, 2026. This service will be carried out by a private contractor.
How to place the branches?
To ensure that the branches are collected, it is IMPORTANT to follow the following rules of use:
- Branches must be grouped and stacked to a height not exceeding 1.2 metres (4 feet) and a width not exceeding 4 metres (13.2 feet);
- Length of branches must not exceed 2.4 meters (8 feet);
- Branches must not be tied;
- Branches must be placed on your property approximately 1 metre from the edge of the road and in small piles with the trimmed edge facing towards the road (away from poison ivy plants);
- Branches must not exceed 7.5 cm (three inches) in diameter as this service is intended only to handle branches from minor pruning or from storm damage. Any pruning or tree felling performed by private contractors will not be collected.
What will not be picked up?
- Tangled branches;
- Thorny branches (e.g. hawthorn, rose bushes…) that can cause injury;
- Tree residue from pruning or felling by private contractors will not be collected;
- Small scrapings
- Roots, stumps and foreign objects such as plastic and metal, are not accepted;
- Noncomplying branches will not be collected, as a result, a notice explaining areas of non-conformity will be left in the mailbox for future reference;
- If the branch collection takes more than 15 minutes per property.
What to do if your collection is considered extraordinary?
During the regular collection of branches, the public works team found that:
- the quantity of branches piled up at the curb exceeds a height of 1.2 metres (4 feet) and/or a width of 4 metres (13.2 feet).
- the length of branches exceeds 2.4 metres (8 feet).
Tree residues resulting from pruning or felling by private contractors will not be collected.
In accordance with By-law No. 509, it is possible to ask Public Works to complete a special collection at an hourly rate of $209/hour, including travel time.
The crew will pick up any branches that have been cut and piled properly at the edge of your property.
To take advantage of this service, please note the following:
- Any special collection of branches requiring additional intervention will be subject to a fee (hourly rate of $209/hour including travel time). By-law No. 509.
- When it becomes apparent that the regular collection is not respecting the guidelines, the public works team will inform the property owner by leaving a door hanger informing the citizen of the situation. The citizen may then notify the municipality by e-mail at info@senneville.ca that he or she wishes to obtain the service of a special collection of branches.
- An invoice will be sent to the citizen and will be payable by electronic payment to your financial institution, cheque, debit card or cash.
- Collection takes place once payment has been received.
***To avoid paying this fee, you can also remove branches from the curb and wait until the next collection date to place the correct number of branches.
Mulch
The municipality offers free non-screened mulch to residents. This mulch comes from the shredding of branches collected during the branch collection days. It is therefore unprocessed, and the available quantity is limited.
How to get mulch?
- Contact City Hall at 514-457-6020
OR - Submit an Online request by selecting the category: COLLECTION – BRANCHES (ADMINISTRATION).
**Please specify the quantity of mulch desired (1/2 or 1 trip), the location where we will deposit the mulch and your phone number.
When will mulch be delivered in 2026?
Mulch delivery takes place at the same time as branch collection, which occurs on the second Tuesday of each month until November.
*The Village of Senneville is not held accountable for any damages. The contractor’s truck is not permitted to drive on private properties or grassy surfaces. It must remain on a hard surface, such as the street or a driveway, when unloading the wood chips.
