Originally scheduled for September 30, 2025, the deadline to comply with the new provincial residential pool safety requirements has been extended to fall 2026.
The Government of Québec announced this additional delay to take into account the difficulties faced by many homeowners and contractors, particularly due to material availability, costs, and the complexity of certain required modifications.
The Village of Senneville reminds pool owners of the importance of complying with the safety standards set out in By-law No. 448-9, which remain unchanged. These rules include, among others:
- installing a fence or secure enclosure surrounding the pool;
- ensuring a gate that closes and locks automatically;
- respecting specific requirements regarding barrier height and spacing.
Even though the deadline has been postponed, it is strongly recommended not to wait until the last minute to carry out the necessary work. This additional delay provides an opportunity to better plan interventions and ensure compliance proactively. The letter of commitment remains an essential tool for confirming your pool’s compliance with the municipality.
