Recommended vigilance: turtles present on local roads!

Did you know that several turtle species inhabit the territory of Senneville? Among them is the Northern Map Turtle, a species in decline in Québec that lives in the Lake of Two Mountains. Because of our proximity to aquatic environments, it is not uncommon to see turtles moving around outside the water.

Since June marks the nesting season for the Northern Map Turtle, you may notice turtles crossing our roads—particularly along Senneville Road—as they search for a safe place to lay their eggs.

The Village encourages all road users to exercise increased caution, respect speed limits, and remain alert, especially during this sensitive period for turtles.

If you spot a turtle, we you to report it promptly using Nature Conservancy of Canada’s tool: https://carapace.ca/en/

Thank you for helping protect our local wildlife
