The Village of Senneville is implementing the By-law No. 505 concerning the landscape contractors, adopted at the last Municipal Council meeting held on April 29. The goal of this by-law is to better manage landscaping activities in our community to help protect public safety, the environment, and, of course, maintain a high quality of life for all residents.
Some clarifications
- What is a landscape contractor? Any natural or legal person who performs landscape maintenance work on behalf of the owner, occupant, or person in charge of a private property, notably of a residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, or institutional nature.
- What is involved in landscape maintenance work? Regular landscaping or maintenance work on flower beds, hedges, lawns, landscaped areas, as well as removal, disposal, or blowing of leaves.
Why is this By-law important?
Landscaping plays a key role in keeping our properties and green spaces beautiful and well-maintained. However, these activities can also have a real impact on daily life — such as road safety, noise, and the environment.
That’s why the Village sees the need to establish clear guidelines to support good relations between landscaping contractors, residents, and all users of public roads. This by-law will help ensure that landscaping work is done responsibly and with respect for everyone’s needs.
What are the main rules?
1. Requirements for landscaping contractors
To work in Senneville, all landscaping contractors will need to get a permit from the municipality. The cost is $50 for each motor vehicle used. This will help us better monitor landscaping activities and keep track of who is working in the community.
2. Responsibility of property owners
If you hire a landscaping contractor, it’s your responsibility to make sure they have a valid permit issued by the Village for the current year.
In short
The adoption of the By-law No. 505 marks an important step toward ensuring that our green spaces are maintained in a responsible, safe, and respectful manner. It will allow our municipality to continue developing harmoniously while preserving the quality of life of its residents.
