Coyote Presence in the Territory

The Village of Senneville has been made aware that coyotes have been observed in our territory.

We understand that the presence of these wild animals may raise concerns. However, it is important to remember that coyotes are a species that has adapted well to urban environments. Safe coexistence is possible when appropriate behaviors are followed.

To ensure the safety of everyone, we encourage residents to remain vigilant when outdoors, particularly in wooded areas or near waterways, where coyotes are more likely to be present. Here are some recommendations to reduce the risk of encounters:

  1. Supervise your pets when they are outside and keep them on a leash during walks.
  1. Do not leave food or waste accessible outdoors, as this can attract coyotes.
  1. If you encounter a coyote, remain calm and slowly back away without turning your back.
  1. Report any coyote sightings in your area by calling the Info-coyotes line at 438 872-COYO (2696) or by completing the online form available on the City of Montreal website
  1. Also report your observation directly to the Municipality via the online request under the “Wild Animals ”section, so the information is officially recorded.
