On September 1, the Village of Senneville was invited by the Quebec Turtle Recovery Team, including the Granby Zoo and several other partners, to attend the release of 10 baby Northern Map Turtles as part of a pilot incubation project.
This event marked the second consecutive year of this conservation initiative, which aims to support the recovery of this threatened species. Thanks to the quality of its natural habitats and the presence of suitable shoreline environments, the Village of Senneville provides favorable habitat for the Northern Map Turtle.
As a threatened species, the Northern Map Turtle deserves our full attention to help preserve the exceptional biodiversity that surrounds us. The release of these young turtles represents a concrete step toward their protection while also helping raise public awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation.
The television program Salut Bonjour recently visited Senneville to film the release of baby Northern Map Turtles back into their natural habitat. Watch the Salut Bonjour feature ( French Only).
The Village of Senneville would like to congratulate all partners for their remarkable work and commitment to protecting our natural heritage. We also encourage residents to remain vigilant on local roads and in shoreline areas, and to report any turtle sightings through carapace.ca.
