Did you know that several turtle species inhabit our territory? In Senneville, we are home to the Map Turtle, a declining species in Quebec that lives in Lake of Two Mountains. Because of our proximity to aquatic environments, it’s not uncommon to see turtles moving outside the water.
Since June, it has been nesting season for the Map Turtle. As a result, they may be spotted on our roads, especially along Senneville Road, as they search for safe places to lay their eggs.
We encourage all road users to exercise extra caution, respect speed limits, and stay alertespecially during this critical nesting period.
If you see a turtle, report it as soon as possible using Nature Conservancy of Canada’s tool: https://carapace.ca/en/.
Thank you for your cooperation!
