Skating Rinks and Slides<\/h1>\n\n\n\n\n

The Village of Senneville sets up outdoor skating rinks in municipal parks during the winter. Check regular updates on ice conditions and verify whether a rink is open in order to better plan your figure skating, hockey, and recreational skating outings this winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

It is important to underline that climate change has a significant impact on the possibility of practicing this activity. Frequent and significant variations in weather conditions and reduced frost period affect the quality of the ice and often completely prevent preparation. Our teams make sure to prepare the ice rinks so that they are operational as soon as the weather allows.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Preparing an Outdoor Skating Rink<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  • A layer of snow must line the ground<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The outside temperature should be at most -8 \u00b0C during the day and be below -15 \u00b0C at night<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • This temperature must be maintained for at least 5 consecutive days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    • Installing borders or strips<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Preparation of a 5 cm thick compacted snow base<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Hardening period<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Watering and surface work<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Repetition of the watering operations until reaching an ice thickness of about 10 cm<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Repairing cracks caused by temperature variation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Following the watering step, it is important to wait for the surface to freeze properly before skating. It is important not to venture into rinks before they are ready, as the weight of the individuals on the forming ice could affect the condition of the ice surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In the summer, the rink in Senneville Park (20 Morningside Avenue) is used for floor hockey as well as a basketball court.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
